Frequently Asked Questions
Is non-emergency medical transportation the same as an ambulance?
No. An ambulance is for emergencies staffed with paramedics. NEMT is for planned, non-urgent trips for medically stable passengers who need mobility assistance. Our drivers help with boarding, wheelchair securement, and stretcher handling — but do not provide medical treatment.
Does Medicare or insurance cover my ride?
Original Medicare does not cover routine NEMT. Some Medicare Advantage plans include a transportation benefit, and many riders pay privately. Call us with your situation and we will explain your options before you book.
Do you accept the Allegheny County MATP?
If you receive Medical Assistance (Medicaid) in Pennsylvania and have an unmet transportation need, you may qualify for free rides through MATP, administered locally in Allegheny County. Contact our dispatch team and we will help determine the right fit.
How much does a ride cost?
Pricing depends on transport type — ambulatory, wheelchair, or stretcher — and distance. We provide a clear quote up front when you call, with no surprises on the day of your ride.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking at least 24 hours ahead, though same-day rides are often available. For recurring appointments like dialysis and chemotherapy, we set up a standing schedule in advance. Dispatch is available 24/7.
Can someone else schedule a ride for me?
Yes. Patients, family members, caregivers, discharge planners, and nursing home or rehab staff can all schedule on a passenger's behalf. We work directly with hospital case managers and discharge planners across Pittsburgh.
Do you provide door-to-door or door-through-door service?
We provide door-through-door assistance — not a curbside drop. Our drivers help passengers from their door, into the vehicle, and all the way to the facility entrance, then assist again on the return trip.
Do you provide rides to dialysis and chemotherapy?
Yes. Recurring treatment transport is one of our most common services. We set up regular, reliable scheduling so passengers never miss a session.
Can a caregiver or family member ride along?
Yes. A family member or caregiver may accompany the passenger at no additional charge.
Do you travel outside Pittsburgh for long-distance trips?
